Prof. Donna Metler
Donna Metler is an experienced educator with experience ranging from Head Start to public schools to college lab schools to university child development and education classes. She is an Orff-Schelwerk music specialist, a K-8 certified math and general education teacher, and an early childhood specialist with a focus on inclusive education.
All of which doesn’t necessarily apply to gifted kids. The good news is that years of studying and learning how children learn also makes it easier to recognize what isn’t working and has no prayer of working for the child in front of you. Which is what turned this strong advocate for public, inclusive education focused professional into a homeschooler and homeschool advocate, and led her to begin presenting to music educators about accommodating gifted and 2e students and meeting their needs. Over time, this has morphed into providing parent support and education on educational options, in and outside of the school system, and guidance on developing a truly individualized education plan using the resources available, and wants gifted kids to have the tools they need to do likewise.
Donna currently teaches music classes, including group classes for all ages and private lessons in Bartlett, TN. She is a frequent speaker and presenter at homeschooling conferences and workshops, as well as teaching and moderating online classes. She shares her home with her husband, four cats, El the Reptile Overlord, and Pinkie Py(thon). In her free time she enjoys making miniatures, building dollhouses, and reading…a lot.
