“My classes are discussion based which allows for exploration of topics in a way that is natural and engaging. I always want to create an environments where children can think deeply, ask challenging questions, and work things through with a supportive group.

Gifted kids keep me curious. I love watching them think things through, challenge themselves, and challenge others. They give me hope that this next generation will continue to think deeply and innovate.”

Heather Aliano is a PhD student at Washington University in St. Louis, in the Philosophy-Neuroscience-Psychology program. She holds a post-graduate certificate in Philosophy, Science and Religion from the University of Edinburgh, and a Masters in Political Management from The George Washington University. Heather believes that philosophy should be fun and interesting—after all, there is so much mystery and beauty around us. Taking time to notice and think about that mystery and grapple with big questions about life, the universe, and our place within it can be incredibly rewarding.

Heather lives in Illinois, right outside St. Louis, with her four kids, three parrots, three cats, a tortoise, and two guinea pigs. She loves working with teenagers, and you’ll always find at least an extra one or two in my house. When she’s not immersed in a good book, you’ll find her cheering on her kids at ice hockey, volleyball, wrestling matches, band competitions, and lacrosse games.
