Let’s Write and Publish an Anthology! – Self-Study

    $100.00

NEW Course! Prof. Valerie and Prof. Suki are joining forces to teach this unique course with a fantastic opportunity for Athena’s students!

“So the thing about publishing is that I’ve actually had publishers ask me to write them stuff. That never happens ever. But for me, it’s happened three times. [Then a publisher wonders whether we might assemble a student anthology]. Make that four!”
    ~ Prof. Valerie

Themed anthologies are totally awesome and fun to use as inspiration! I can’t imagine what you all are going to come up with.” ~ Prof. Suki

You can become a real author! This self-paced class, created by two award-winning and massively productive authors, teaches kids the fundamentals of book writing: plot, character, scenes, and outline, and guides them through writing a short story or other project, which we will publish as a class. With a little written each week, kids can complete a real book together!

We already have lots of stories, compiled through fall, and an independent publisher is interested in publishing (real small press publishing, not self-publishing) this anthology of stories and short pieces by our young Athena’s authors!

You can access the recorded webinars and readings, and then we professors will edit your story and work with you to help you complete it. This book, when we finish it, will be properly on sale and go on everyone’s resumes and portfolios.

    Note to Parents:

    • Students who commit to this process agree that they will produce a short story (or possibly poem or nonfiction), revised and edited (final draft), by the due date of May 1, 2025. If they cannot finish their project, fees will not be refunded. The instructors will make every effort to support the students in the process of writing and editing their submission.
    • Once enrolled, students will see the Fall 2024 – Self-Study classroom in their “My Courses” list. This classroom includes student and teacher conversations, work already in progress, and Fall 2024 webinar recordings. Although all the information will be available, students should begin with the Introduction and Welcome Activity sections located in the virtual classroom.
