Academic Writing 100: Academic Writing from the Ground Up – Writing

This class uses the building blocks of elementary language arts to help students develop upper level elementary and middle school academic writing skills.

Academic Writing 200: How to Write in Any Situation – Writing
- Semester-long course.
- 5/6 to 11/12 ability level.
- Brief Description:
This class is a survey of the four major writing styles. While few occasions call for writing that falls into only one of these categories, learning to
distinguish between the four types is invaluable for understanding the ingredients for each style. Academic Writing 300: How to Write a Research Paper – Writing
- Semester-long course.
- 7/8 to 11/12 ability level.
- May be taken asynchronously by listening to recordings rather than attending live classes.

This class covers a formulaic and explanatory approach to writing a research paper. Students will complete a research paper step-by-step throughout this 16-

Academic Writing 400: Analyze This! (Literary Analytical Writing) – Writing

- 9/10 to Advanced Placement® ability level.
- Brief Description:
This class covers the narrow focus of literary analytical writing. Building on prior working knowledge of literary analysis, students will learn to translate

Upper Level Literature
College Prep English 9/10 – Writing/Grammar/Vocabulary/Literature
- Year-long course.
- 9/10 ability level.
- Brief Description:
This class is designed to help a student move from middle to high school material both in complexity and maturity. It assumes students are prepared to study at the high school level. The course incorporates academic writing, grammar, and vocabulary instruction while covering the three genres of literature and at a beginning
high school ability and maturity level. Note the readings will be at a level and cover subjects in line with the maturity level of an upper level high school student. College Prep English 11/12 – Writing/Grammar/Vocabulary/Literature

This class is specifically designed as a precursor to Athena’s Advanced Placement® English Literature and Composition. It assumes students are prepared to study a final level of high school English. The course incorporates academic writing, grammar, and vocabulary instruction while covering the three genres of literature and at an upper high school level.
