Step into the shoes of philosophers, emperors, inventors, and revolutionaries in Empires, Enlightenment, and Everything In Between—a thrilling journey through the rise of Europe and the foundations of the modern world.
Over 16 weeks, we’ll explore the ideas, movements, and power shifts that shaped the West—from Ancient Greece and Rome to the Enlightenment, World Wars, and the birth of the European Union. Students will analyze how people and ideas challenged authority, redefined rights, and sparked revolutions. This course provides a strong foundation in European history and global awareness, helping students make connections between the past and the present.
This course is packed with engaging discussions and historical thinking that bring each era to life. If you’re curious about how yesterday’s empires and ideas still echo today, you’re in the right place!

What to expect in the Required section in the classroom each week:
- Brief reading introducing the main topic
- A Weekly, Graded Quiz
- One required forum post responding to a discussion question
What to expect in the Highly Suggested & Optional sections in the classroom each week:
- Curated articles, maps, timelines, and videos for deeper exploration
- Optional enrichment projects or bonus questions for critical thinking
- Fun history-themed activities (like debates, role-play, or design challenges)
- A short written assignment or creative response (often flexible and open-ended)
What to expect during the weekly webinar:
- Weekly webinars are 50 minutes long. Webinars are recorded and are available for students with schedule conflicts.
- This course is highly discussion-based—students will be encouraged to share insights, ask questions, and explore differing perspectives on major historical themes
Before taking this course, students should be able to:
- Read at a solid middle school level or above
- Write a basic paragraph independently
- Be comfortable discussing ideas with peers
Students should be willing to:
- Be prepared for the webinar.
- Actively participate (via the microphone and chat) in the class discussion.
- Respond with positive and encouraging comments on their classmates’ posts in the classroom forums.
