All things are composed of elements… hair, water, computers, your dinner, and all living things. Everything we know is made of matter and contains chemicals that have different reactions and properties that scientists have mixed together to create the world we enjoy today.
The Periodic Table is like a giant map of all the elements, and it was designed to be a cheat sheet for scientists!
In this course our students will explore all of the elements on the Table, and they’ll have fun learning about atoms, bonding and what these different elements make when they are mixed together—things we see every day.
At the end of the course our students will have mastered the Periodic Table. They can even choose to learn the placement of the elements by memory. Working with the Periodic Table will provide an invaluable foundation for further scientific study.
Note to parents:
- Dr. Kirsten created this class to follow her Middle School Chemistry course, therefore the information about atoms and bonding will be brief.
- Highly recommended before taking this course, but not a prerequisite: Athena’s Middle School Chemistry or an equivalent course of self-study.
- Middle School Chemistry follows this course in the same time slot in the spring.
