    Webpages are almost everywhere we look. Have you ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes to build them?

    In this engaging course we will explore the fundamentals of web development code! Students will be introduced to web development programming languages and will build fun projects to implement what they have learned. This course will focus on HTML and CSS and will lightly touch on Javascript’s role in web development.

    Join us as we explore:

    • HyperText Markup Language 
    • Headings and Lists
    • Text Formatting and Fonts
    • Internal and External Links 
    • Cascading Stylesheets 
    • Big picture on the role of Javascript
    • And more!

    Note to Parents:

    • This course is meant to serve as an introduction, therefore no previous experience with coding is necessary to participate in this class.

    What to expect in the Required section in the classroom each week:

    • Read a weekly announcement from the instructor.
    • Practice Skills in a “Code Playground.”
    • Respond to a forum prompt — meeting the sentence requirements and sharing project progress.
    • Respond with positive and encouraging comments on their classmates’ posts in the classroom forums.

    What to expect in the Highly Suggested & Optional sections in the classroom each week:

    • Curated resources, including websites & videos, are provided to excite learners and to add depth to the subject matter.

    What to expect during the weekly webinar:

    • Weekly webinars are 50 minutes long. Webinars are recorded and are available for students with schedule conflicts.
    • Primary instruction and guided discussions are provided during live webinars.
    • Active Participation (via the microphone and chat) in online class discussions.

    Before taking this course, students should be able to: 

    • Perform arithmetic operations.
    • Read at a solid 5th-grade level or above.
    • Write a few sentences independently.

    Students should be willing to:

    • Complete and stay current on the required readings and activities for the class.
    • Be prepared for the webinar.
    • Actively participate (via the microphone) in the class discussion.
    • Encourage class discussion by adding their questions/ideas in the chat window during the webinar.
    • Respond with positive and encouraging comments on their classmates’ posts in the classroom forums.

    * If your computer is unable to run either of these editors, note that most other code editors should be able to work with HTML and CSS perfectly fine. Feel free to contact the instructor with any questions; she will be happy to suggest substitute editor options and to confirm the compatibility of substitute code editors.
