If we couldn’t use our voices or our hands, we would probably develop a language with our toes. Human brains need to “do” language.
This class won’t teach you how to sign, but it will teach you why signed languages are so amazing! Learn about the structure of sign language, the history of American Sign Language, the vibrant Deaf community, and more.
One of four “Special Topics in Cognition” courses offered this summer, this class is an excellent choice for students interested in psychology, cognitive science, or neuroscience. Appropriate both for those who have taken previous psychology / cognition courses and those who haven’t. Join us also for Human Evolution, Linguistics of Sign Language, and Neurodiversity.
