Are you interested in marine biology or ecology? As in extremely passionate? Are you looking for something that will take your interest to the next level?
Emma (the Animal Lover) has just the class for you!
This class will guide students through creating a marine biology or ecology project of their very own. Don’t worry—you don’t have to live near the ocean! Students who are unable to access the ocean can develop a project based on the rocky intertidal ecosystem and use data available online (or potentially another ecosystem depending on the data available).
How will the course work?
The course is most simply described as a guided independent study. The class will meet in the webinar room for the first two weeks of the course to discuss project design and how to write up results.
After the first two weeks, students will meet individually with Emma every week for eight weeks. Students may choose to email a progress report or meet in a webinar room.
At the end of the course, students will have designed, completed, and written up their very own marine biological or ecological study.
This is a junior high through high school level course. Students should feel comfortable writing at a high level and should have sufficient background on marine biology and ecology. It is highly beneficial to the student’s experience in this course, but not necessarily required, if the student is able to comprehend and gain information from scientific articles.
