Description

What are the different kinds of algae? Are algae plants? How can creatures survive in the rocky intertidal zone? How can anything live in the deep ocean? These are a few of the enticing questions that will be answered in this sixteen-week workshop!

We’ll learn about a myriad of topics, from algae to estuarine ecosystems. Extra information is included in the classroom so students who are already familiar with the subject material can continue to expand their knowledge. Students are invited to explore the material more in-depth via a college textbook.

What to Expect

What to expect in the Required section in the classroom each week:

  • A research forum – in which students are given the opportunity to research a marine organism related to the week’s content.
  • A creative forum – in which students can show their creativity through an activity.

What to expect in the Highly Suggested & Optional sections in the classroom each week:

  • Curated resources, including websites & videos, are provided to excite learners and to add depth to the subject matter.

What to expect during the weekly webinar:

  • Weekly webinars are 50 minutes long. Webinars are recorded and are available for students with schedule conflicts.
  • Primary instruction and guided discussions are provided during live webinars.
  • Active Participation (via the microphone and chat) in online class discussions.
  • An activity at the end of the webinar.

From parents and students…

She has loved her experiences with you at Athena’s. They have been the perfect transition from the classroom…She has felt that the Athena’s environment is the best of both worlds; she can still learn with experts and true peers in a classroom, but doesn’t have to spend so many hours of her day to get that experience. She is free to move at her own pace and to pursue other passions and activities with the many hours that have been freed up by being able to learn at home and with Athena’s.
