In this challenging course students gain foundations in the field of economics including how individuals, firms, and markets make decisions when faced with situations of scarcity. This course has four sections: fundamental concepts, microeconomics, macroeconomics and international economic concepts.
Examining historical and current examples of economic principles and systems at work, students will learn the consequences and repercussions of free trade and globalization, sources of unemployment, the role and effects of taxes in the economy and the function of government intervention.
In this course we will address issues that relate to business, including labor-management relations, business organizations, money and banking, financial markets, the relationship between GDP and economic growth, and economic challenges. Students will also study international trade, globalization and the impact of technology on the economy.
This is NOT a Personal Finance course.
What to expect in the Required section in the classroom each week:
- Each week students will be asked to read a chapter from textbook and complete end of chapter questions and exercises
- Students will be asked to select a topic, research it and make a presentation on a scheduled date
- Students will perform online and hands on activities on the discussed topic
- Students will be required to participate in forum discussions

- Videos and video tutorials about different financial topics
- Online games and interactive activities
- Listen for financial Podcasts for kids
- Curated resources, including websites & videos, are provided to excite learners and to add depth to the subject matter, or just for fun.
What to expect during the weekly webinar:
- Biweekly webinars are 50 minutes long. Recorded sessions are available for students with schedule conflicts.
- Primary instruction and guided discussions are provided during live webinars.
- Active Participation (via the microphone and chat) is expected.
Before taking this course, students should:
