All of the great inventions — cars, planes, computers, the Internet, etc. — wouldn’t have happened without scientists. Space exploration, deep sea adventures, and Arctic quests are led by scientists. The study of plants, animals, and life-saving medical treatments are all part of science. Without science we wouldn’t have the world today or tomorrow.
In this course series, Athena’s students will time travel back to the birth of science using the Story of Science text as the framework for learning. Students will find out about the movers and shakers of science using primary source analysis, critical thinking, and interactive web tools.
Through our discussion-based webinars, we will focus on the connections between scientists and how science progressed and changed our world. From ideas to inventions this course will inform, engage and inspire!
Aristotle starts us off on our journey through the first book in The Story of Science series. We will travel back in time to ancient Babylonia, Egypt, and Greece. During the course of our class, we will meet the first scientists, astronomers, and mathematicians. Pythagoras, Archimedes, Fibonacci, and Ptolemy join us on our journey.
(Although discussed in this video, we save space-time, singularities, etc. for Story of Science – Einstein.)
Note to parents:
- The Story of Science – Newton at the Center follows this course in the same time slot in the spring.
