A critical survey of the world’s religions, exploring beliefs, rituals, sacred texts and ethical ideals of representative religious manifestations of the past and the present. Together we will explore with the principal world religions from an historical and developmental perspective that engenders respect for all religious manifestations.
Our course will include Indigenous Religions, Hinduism, Buddhism, Chinese Religions, Judaism, Christianity and Islam, among others.
We will identify the common themes in the origin stories, ethics and symbols which bind the great religions together as well as the differences which make each unique. Each student will also have the opportunity to examine the religious landscape that surrounds them in particular, adding to our understanding of religious life today.
